About MDRCost.com

An independent reference for the cost of Managed Detection and Response services. Operated by Digital Signet, founded by Oliver Wakefield-Smith. Built so the budgeting question for MDR (CrowdStrike Falcon Complete, SentinelOne Vigilance, Sophos MDR, Arctic Wolf, Expel, Red Canary and others) can be answered without an MSSP sales call.

Why this site exists

MDR pricing is opaque by design. Vendors quote on endpoints, identities, log volume, or some hybrid; the same workload sits in radically different price bands depending on which vendor you ask. Most top-ranking pages on MDR cost are written by MDR vendors funnelling toward a quote, or by MSSP comparison sites paid by the MSSP. This site exists to publish defensible cost-per-endpoint and cost-per-organisation bands, surface what MDR genuinely covers vs what an MSSP charges as an add-on (24/7 SOC, threat hunting, IR retainer), and provide a calculator that takes endpoint count and tier and returns a like-for-like figure across vendors.

About Digital Signet

This site is operated by Digital Signet, an independent AI-development studio founded by Oliver Wakefield-Smith. It is part of a portfolio of consumer cost-reference and calculator sites we run as a live R&D lab for our Signet methodology, an autonomous AI development team that ships real software at scale.

Digital Signet does not sell MDR services, does not run a SOC, does not act as an MSSP reseller, and does not accept paid placements from any MDR vendor or MSSP. Editorial direction is set by Oliver. Drafts are produced via Digital Signet's autonomous AI development methodology and reviewed against the editorial framework before publication.

Editorial principles

  • Source pattern. Built on public reference material across the relevant publisher landscape.
  • No paid placements. Does not sell MDR services, does not run a SOC, does not act as an MSSP reseller, and does not accept paid placements from any MDR vendor or MSSP. Independent of every named third party in the relevant space.
  • Math is documented inline. Where the site has a calculator, inputs and assumptions are visible on the calculator page. Nothing is hidden behind opaque scoring.
  • Update only when underlying reality changes. Triggers: Major vendor pricing-model change (e.g. per-endpoint to per-identity); New entrant publishing pricing materially below the existing band; Major MDR acquisition or product retirement event; Marketplace published price changes greater than 10%.
